Advanced Oncology - more than 10 years of medical education in the field of oncology

 

University of Ulm

There is a growing demand worldwide for academic continuing education for oncologists. In addition to extensive clinical skills in various areas of oncology, aspects of personalized and patient-centered medicine, expertise in conducting clinical trials and the professional management of oncological facilities is also asked for. Oncological science and research has a long and ongoing tradition at the University Ulm and the Ulm University Hospital. The successful medical continuning education program Advanced Oncology has developed from this. Since more than 10 years Advanced Oncology is dedicated to increasing the knowledge of health professionals, physicians and scientists in all fields of cancer treatment.

History of Advanced Oncology

The Beginning

before 2009: Short courses for heamato-oncologists conducted by the International Center for Advanced Studies (ICAS) under the direction of Professor Dr. med. Dr. h.c. mult. Theodor M. Fliedner. He was among the founders of Ulm University and one of the pioneers of stem cell research within the context of leukemia. Furthermore, he worked as a medical liaison for WHO by chairing the Global Advisory Committee on Health Research for a time.

2009

Grant allocation by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science and Education for the Master Online Project

2010

Inauguration of the Advanced Oncology study program, enrolment of first students

2011

First written online examination of Ulm University

2012

First accreditation according to Bologna criteria

2016

Re-accreditation of the study program

2020

10-year anniversary with Alumni meeting online

2022

"Improving Oncology Worldwide" published as result of alumni meeting
upcoming 2023 re-accreditation

The City of Ulm - Tradition meets Future

Since the Middle Ages Ulm has been an important city, located at the junction of important trade routes. Today, Ulm still connects large cities in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Ulm’s strong connection with other cultures is reflected in numerous international festivals.
